Like many city guys with office jobs, I have the kind of stubble that’s not quite a beard — but always verging on it. In our post–Mumford & Sons era, mine is a common facial-hair choice, probably because it takes almost no effort. All it requires is an electric beard trimmer, decent eyesight, and a willingness to never actually shave your face (unless you want to clean up your neck with a proper razor occasionally, which is considered respectable before meetings and big events).
By keeping the criteria detailed above in mind, you can make sure to narrow down your selection of the best trimmer for men with ease. To help you make your decision, these are some of the questions you should ask yourself about the models you are considering:
By the second week, you’ll have a better sense of the shape of your beard. It will be thick in many places, patchy in others, but you’ll begin to get a better idea of what beard style best suits your face. Growth is still your priority, however, so resist the urge to trim the edges or “clean it up.”
A wet beard will interfere with the spreading of the oil (oil and water don’t mix!). Make sure your beard is dry. If you apply the oil after a shower, towel dry your beard vigorously , even the under beard, before applying the oil. This will help make sure you get even distribution on your beard.
You do not need to wash your beard every day – that’ll dry it out! We recommend washing your beard about 2-3 times a week, but you can do it more or less depending on your body chemistry and how active you are. Facial hair has a coarser, unique structure when compared to the rest of your hair, so using a specially designed wash is necessary to keep it healthy and clean, without damaging your hair or skin. Using regular shampoo will dry out your beard and skin – causing it to become brittle and break while your skin flakes.
Besides the obvious answer, it’s good to know that coconut oil is produced in huge volumes annually and it’s really popular across the globe. Yet it still hasn’t been utilized to its full potential. Only recently, more companies in food and personal care industry started creating new products to take advantage of its excellent health -and not only, benefits.
Think of your arm or leg hair. If you were to shave it off, it would grow back, but after a certain length it stops. This is when you have hit terminal length. On a beard, different parts of your face hit terminal length at different stages of growth. For example, your sideburns typically hit terminal length faster that the area around and below your chin. This is the reason why beards tend to have an oval shape when left untouched. Your mustache will also hit terminal length before your beard. This is especially true for the middle section of the stache.
The first one on this list should be more than able to do the job. As for shaving your head, I’d suggest you get something more specific for that task, it does not have to be expensive. Check out our balding clippers review.
A beard trimmer is what its name suggests – its job is to trim your beard and maintain it at the length you desire. Trimmers aren’t used to shave your hair clean and down to your skin, like an electric razor. In fact, a trimmer’s blades should rarely, if ever, touch your skin.
Defy the urge to trim or shape your beard. If you want the hair to come in quickly, leave it alone while it grows. You will have the chance to groom the beard after about four to six weeks when it is full.

Beard balm is a great all-in-one beard moisturizer, conditioner and styling aid that is especially helpful for people who want their beards to look thicker. For best results, wash your beard with an all-natural beard soap and apply beard balm when dry. Scrape out a dime sized amount of balm and rub between your palms. Run your fingers through your facial hair, starting from the neck and working up, making sure to rub balm into the skin where your beard grows.
Beard oil is an absolutely necessary component in your beard maintenance routine. It goes a long way towards nourishing and hydrating your beard, and many beard oils can also function as a leave-in conditioner or a facial moisturizer, if you’re trying to be thrifty.
We have created the perfect balance between the two products with our Woodland Harmony Beard Balm. It has all the nourishing properties of beard oil given by the powerful carrier oils (coconut oil, peach kernel oil, palm oil) and the natural butters (cocoa butter and avocado butter).
Never, ever, give up on your beard after a couple of weeks simply because it looks patchy, scraggly, or like another adjective you prefer. Impatience claims the lives of too many beards, as does the often-inevitable itchiness that comes in the initial stages of facial hair growth.
I have a long thin beard.. about 2 inches but uneven around my cheeks. I would want to have it thicker and fuller. I use oil and then balm to seal in the moisture.. I also wash my beard every other day with a beard shampoo company from an article I’ve read. But I’ve noticed I’ve been getting acne on my neck and the outer edges of my beard.. is it the oils I use or the balm, or both? Can you help?
Beards offer a variety of other health benefits, including trapping dust to help you avoid asthma attacks and upper respiratory infections, and act as windbreakers, helping to shield your face from cold weather blasts.
Beardbrand came from very humble beginnings when we launched with a YouTube channel and a blog. Our goal from the first day was to change the way society views beardsmen and wanted to make a big mark on the world.
To naturally boost your testosterone, you’re gonna want to sleep a lot, but only a little more than the national average. So anywhere between 7-10 hours per night will do you a lot of good. Most testosterone is produced during REM sleep, so more sleep = more testosterone. In addition to sleeping more, you’ll want to make sure you’re eating enough as well. Low-calorie diets can take a huge toll on your reproductive system, slowing down your testosterone production. To combat this, consider taking some snacks with you though throughout the day and eat a little more than you think you need.
A proper beard line can be the difference between looking fatter or looking sharper. Cut it too close to the neck and the slightest weight gain is amplified and makes “you look like you have a double chin” – GQ magazine.
Honest Amish’s use of fruit and nut butter is very purpose-driven and geared explicitly toward optimal beard quality all while protecting the skin beneath the beard. To note from use, the beard balm isn’t so thick that you can get your favorite beard brush through it and groom properly.
Beard balm is a versatile product. You don’t need to fully apply it as it can be used sparingly in problem areas such as the sideburns. As a control product it is designed to help give shape and keep down stray hairs. It may take a few tries to get the amount right but once you do you’ll be ready to hit the town.
I see your plan. You intend to walk up to that pretty filly standing over yonder, tip your cap and offer her your calling card, with the promise of gentlemanly conduct and perhaps a warm meal. But she’ll rebuff you, my good sir, because your beard smells musty. Fix this awkward situation with some beard oil, destined to make your beard smell manly, as it should. Beard oil is a leave-in conditioner that makes your beard look healthy and shiny, and adds a manly scent–think of it as a beard cologne. It’s different from beard conditioner, which you wash out during a shower. Beard oil often comes with jojoba oil and other natural oils that mimic a man’s natural follicle oils, making it easily absorbed by the skin to promote healthy, strong strands. I’ve also listed many other types below. Find a beard oil that suits you best, and it will become your new best friend.
Vinod, you shouldn’t be buying trimmers if you clean shave. Trimmers are meant to be used to maintain and trim a beard, not shave them off. While you can have a close shave with a trimmer, it wouldn’t be any good as compared to a close shave with a shaver. If you trust philips then there are plenty of good shavers and trimmers around from philips. I am assuming you live in India. 🙂
Next, clogged pores can prevent hair from growing in properly, so using a washcloth when washing your facial hair is beneficial, and a boar bristle brush with firm bristles. You can find that here: http://themodcabin.com/product-category/beard-brushes/
Utility balm is a great product for men rockin’ a medium to large sized beard, but also a solid choice if your skin is dryer than most. The utility balm was designed to have a higher viscosity than the oil – meaning it’s thicker in texture and takes longer to absorb. Where beard oil comes in a bottle of liquid, utility balm is closer in texture to pomade or solid cologne.
You can also get a few of these natural vitamins in the form of a supplement as well, as we mentioned above. Your beard is really an extension of yourself. Remember those playdoh things where you made the figures grow hair? It’s basically that! The play-doh is your body and beard. If you eat like shit and have an unhealthy diet, then your play-doh will dry out and you’ll grow a shitty beard. Make sense? What you eat makes a difference in how your beard grows, so why not take steps to ensure you have the healthiest beard possible. You can find natural beard vitamins out there. They help pick up the slack if your diet is lacking. They have a huge convenience factor. You can create your own mixture of Men’s Health vitamins, Biotin, Fish Oil, and whatever else you want, but just picking up a beard vitamin takes all the guesswork out of it.
If you are looking out for a multi-purpose trimmer, then this product might not fit in your demands. It can possibly work great on your beard, but for other trimming purposes, you might have to shuffle the market once again.
Microbiologists determined in tests that beards “contained a lot of normal bacteria, but some were comparable to toilets” Skin underneath the beard can build oil and lead to acne, along with other skin conditions
5. Get a Beard Transplant: Yes, beard transplants are a real thing. For a few stacks you can have the doctor pluck some hairs from the back of your scalp and transplant them onto your patchy spots. (Full coverage can run you a semester’s tuition at Harvard.) After a couple thousand grafts, the hair falls out after two weeks and then regrows after a few months. So there’s a long waiting period of trusting that it’s going to work. Until suddenly, it does.
Beard trimmers almost always come with an adjustable and removable trimming guide. By adjusting the position of the trimming guide, you control how closely it will trim your beard. Refer to the instructions supplied with your trimmer for details. Until you’ve mastered the use of your trimmer, it is best to adjust the guide for a longer beard length setting at first.
After shampooing, you may use a conditioner. Be sure to rinse thoroughly. Failure to rinse sufficiently may result in flaking. Because beard hairs are so coarse, conditioners will have less effect on the beard than on the hair on your head. But a conditioner will still help make your beard feel softer.
