Beard balm is a versatile product. You don’t need to fully apply it as it can be used sparingly in problem areas such as the sideburns. As a control product it is designed to help give shape and keep down stray hairs. It may take a few tries to get the amount right but once you do you’ll be ready to hit the town.
We also used to think that dry and non-hydrated is the same thing. But it is not. While dryness is the effect of external causes, dehydration is the effect of internal causes. Dehydration is what happens to your body when you lose more liquids than you gain.
Beard balm is another essential tool to anyone who is serious about proper beard care, grooming, and maintenance, and we think it’s important enough that you should have a guide – as we provide here – to the best beard balms of 2018.
Besides the obvious answer, it’s good to know that coconut oil is produced in huge volumes annually and it’s really popular across the globe. Yet it still hasn’t been utilized to its full potential. Only recently, more companies in food and personal care industry started creating new products to take advantage of its excellent health -and not only, benefits.
I have a grey, leaning toward white, beard that is dry and goes all over the place. It also has some wave. In the past, I have always kept my beard closely cropped. But in the last couple of months, I have let it grow out.
Follow up your shampoo with some beard conditioner, like Zeus Beard Conditioner Wash for Men. Not only does it soften all that new beard bristle you’re experiencing, it has a manly, subtle verbena lime scent that will make the ladies swoon.

A couple things to note. This balm isn’t going to provid a significant hold, but for most beards it’s enough. It’s going to apply and feel much like an oil once on the beard. The classic version has no scent added, but the base ingredients do have a slight smell to them.
How long do I like my facial hair? Different beard trimmers have different length settings for you to choose between, so depending on how you like to style and shape your beard, whether that be short and neatly trimmed or a well-kept lumberjack look, you’ll want to make sure your facial hair trimmer is conducive to those needs.

Even for those of us with signs of dense facial hair, we still might not let our beards grow out in fear of uneven growth. It doesn’t matter who you are, there isn’t a single beard out there that naturally grows out in perfect uniformity from side to side, top to bottom, or chin to cheek. To think otherwise is silly and will put you on the fast track to disappointment. This gents is why we have beards trimmers and electric clippers, to help even out unruly corners of our facial hair and achieve the desired looks that we want for our beards. The only way you’ll know how your beard grows is if you let it do its thing and then adapt. Your beard is unique for a reason, it’s time to make peace with it.
Balms for beard & hair (+ body for our utility balm), so you get more functionality in one jar. Minimize the amount of products on your shelf while maximizing the quality. These balms are made without parabens, sulfates, silicones or dyes because we care about your beard as much as you do.
Although it’s an average weight for a beard trimmer at only one pound, the sleek design doesn’t give it as good of a grip and its design doesn’t fit as well in your hand as other models we have reviewed.
Guard Fills Quickly: The guard tends to fill with hair very quickly, especially if you have a very thick beard. However, a quick tap will get most of the hair out of the guard and you can continue trimming as usual.
Hey guys. My beard is pretty thick and most of the time pretty unmanageable haha. My hair is somewhat coarse, wirey, curly and generally kinda just grows all over the place. It tangles and mats up and pulls and catches something fierce. I can hardly brush it with it catching and pulling. Even when damp or after fresh oil it still pulls. Plus I have a hard time getting oil to the skin bc of the thickness I have. Not to mention under my jawline doesn’t seem to want to grow down. It’s kinda like kudzu vine. It’s just wraps around itself and doesn’t provide and length. The hairs from above the jawline and my cheeks grow down and are fairly manageable but the underside not so much. I can brush it down 20 times and it just knots right back up. It’s got thickness and fullness but I’m not able to show my true length (which I could be proud of if I could display it) any recommendations on how to try and tame this “briar patch”?
Age can play a factor in how fast beards grow. Men have the best chance of growing a thicker and longer beard between the ages of 25 and 35, because that is when the hair goes into the longest anagen phases of the hair growth cycle, which is when hair grows, which means you’ll experience the most growth then. (The hair growth cycle is covered in fuller detail in an above section if you want to learn more.)
If you’re having a hard time growing a beard, we have some advice that can help prevent you from looking like Michael Cera trying to grow a mustache. If you don’t know what I mean, I encourage you to Google it. No man wants to look like that.
Finally, the beards are back! It doesn’t matter if you are a hipster, a programmer, a lumberjack dude or an actual lumberjack, the time has come for the beards to come back and stick to more faces than ever. We haven’t seen this many beards since the 60’s and there is now an entire science to help you groom the best beard you can grow now!
Beard itch should only be a temporary phenomenon, occurring only in the first few weeks of growing out your beard. Any beard itch that lasts longer or is very severe could be the sign of a medical condition, such as fungus, allergies or some dermatological issue like rosacea. If you have severe itching, itching that lasts longer than a few weeks, or itching accompanied by unexplained redness, welts or flaking skin, see your doctor.

Organic coconut oil is one of the top ingredients. Coconut oil is a great natural moisturizer that’s ideal for both hair and skin because it has a pH that’s very compatible with both. So, not only does it moisturize, but it keeps your skin and hair at their prime acidity level, which keeps them healthy and prevents hair loss and patchiness. Beard Balm also contains 100% Kosher grapeseed oil; grapeseed oil is light, non-greasy, and reduces frizz, contributing to better beard control.
Beardsley Lotion for Beards is a gentle, Bay Rum-scented beard moisturizer that is infused with keratin to nourish your beard. (I know I’ve railed against keratin in this guide, but I want to stress it is fine to use it topically and it has a lot of benefits topically.)
Two time world beard champion Jack Passion (photo above) says that in order to grow and maintain a great looking beard focus on your health because if you are healthy on the inside, you’ll grow nice hair. That means eating foods rich in protein and saturated fat to reach your maximum potential. Read the full article here.
If you are new to the beard-growing process you’ll find the most challenging part being how to handle other people’s reactions. If you were left on a desert island by yourself you wouldn’t have this issue; but going for a different look with without doubt get comments from others.
Now I am making two that are safe for animals and man or woman sensitive skin areas that is lightly scented with a healing essential oil and the other smells like the forest floor right after a fresh rain. It smell like fresh dirt. It good, real good. All organic and hemp is the main carrier oil. Mixed with several others for complete beard and skin care. It is call MAN.
Beard Oil is a combination of oils and vitamins that you apply to your beard that is essential for maintaining your beard, mustache, goatee and other other form of facial hair. Regardless of the length of your beard, your facial hair should be taken care of just like you would with the hair on your head and that’s where Beard Oil comes in.
you want to make sure you are exfoliating and moisturizing the skin underneath your beard. Make sure to wash your facial hair with an all-natural hot processed soap. Store bought soaps and beard washes tend to try your skin out. In addition, adding a jojoba and argan based beard oil will help create the conditions for speedy growth. It is possible you will just not grow long facial hair in certain areas. But keeping your skin and beard properly exfoliated and moisturized will help you make the most of what you have. 🙂
When you’re confident that you’ve spread the beard oil out evenly, grab a beard comb and gently comb your beard to shape. Beard oil doesn’t hold a shape very well. If you want to maintain a certain shape, then I suggest you try some beard gloss. However, oil will give your beard weight and give it a nice sheen. Comb it out to brighten up this sheen and order un-orderly strands that will try to fly out here and there.
Amish and Hutterite men shave until they marry and then grow a beard and are never thereafter without one, but it is a particular form of a beard (see Visual markers of marital status). Many Syrian Christians from Kerala in India wore[when?] long beards.
One of the biggest complaints with this product is its smell. However, it’s important to note that most find they love the smell. Oils and butters are fats. They can go rancid if stored for too long or improperly. For those who say the product smells horrific, they probably got a rancid batch, in which case they simply need to contact the manufacturer. If no one reports the issue to the manufacturer, not only will you get a replacement/refund, but the bad batches might continue to be sold. Consumer’s calling in is how any company knows to recall a bad batch of a product. The good news, though, is that most say the product works and smells great. Just remember to take the steps I mentioned if you’re one of the unlucky few.
In the United States, meanwhile, popular movies portrayed heroes with clean-shaven faces and “crew cuts”. Concurrently, the psychological mass marketing of Madison Avenue was becoming prevalent, and makers of safety razors were among these marketers’ early clients, including The Gillette Company and the American Safety Razor Company. The phrase five o’clock shadow, as a pejorative for stubble, was coined circa 1942 in advertising for Gem Blades, by the American Safety Razor Company, and entered popular usage. These events conspired to popularise short hair and clean-shaven faces as the only acceptable style for decades to come. The few men who wore the beard or portions of the beard during this period were frequently either elderly, Central European, members of a religious sect that required it, sailors, or in academia.[citation needed]
Hi Paps. All of The Mod Cabin’s beard oils will moisturize and condition your facial hair. Start with that. Our beard balms will moisturize and condition as well, but they will also seal in the moisture and provide a light to medium hold.
So, give your beard a proper shampooing and conditioning. Our motto in terms of hygiene is that there is no such thing as too clean. So don’t worry about washing your beard too often. Three times per week would be a fair number of times, if you ask us.
The bad news is that there is no commercially available gene therapy available to make your beard grow faster. But even though you can’t change your genes, you can help your beard grow faster by doing a couple of things.
Some men will always have a patchy beard. This is genetics-based and occurs in men of all ancestries. If you fall into that category, embrace it. There’s nothing inherently wrong with patchy beards, and there are a lot of styling tips out there to optimize their appearance.
Many trimmers come with attachments that are added to the unit to achieve different lengths and different styles – such as a goatee – or include a stubble guide attachment that helps you achieve the stubble look that is popular among many men.
The key to choosing the right beard style for your face shape really boils down to trimming and styling your beard so that it complements the shape of your face. What that means, basically, is that you want your beard to make smaller than average facial features look larger and larger than average facial features look smaller. Essentially, you’re styling your beard to even out your face, which immediately makes you more handsome.
The Gyroflex 3D features makes it possible to contour around in 3 dimensions-pivot around, tilt inward and flex outward to move with the natural contours of the face resulting in a smooth shaving experience and preventing any bumps or cuts.
There’s no need for putting up with a frustratingly dry beard, and with Smooth Viking Beard Oil for Men, you won’t have to. It’s smooth and takes care of what a comb or brush can’t. Moreover, it promotes growth and is said to help you achieve better beard length at a faster rate than other products.
Use scissors to detail your beard and trim your mustache: Some guys are petty adept at using clippers to trim their mustaches, but that can be somewhat tricky. The safer thing to do is to use scissors. Scissors are also crucial to detailing your beard and getting rid of stray hairs.
According to the Shia scholars, as per Sunnah, the length of beard should not exceed the width of a fist. Trimming of facial hair is allowed, however, shaving it is haram (religiously forbidden).[64][65][66]
I have been trying to grow a beard for a while now but it was fragile so I decided to start over what do you recommend for thicker healthier beards? I already grow all over my face just want a stronger healthier looking beard. And what do u recommend to use for styling once it’s long enough.
Defy the urge to trim or shape your beard. If you want the hair to come in quickly, leave it alone while it grows. You will have the chance to groom the beard after about four to six weeks when it is full.
After shampooing your beard, you should always opt to use a beard conditioner. It could be a leave-in conditioner (which many balms and oils double as) or it could be a conditioner you wash out. Either way, conditioner is important because it fixes roughness in your hair cuticle while protecting it from damage.
For unruly beard and mustache hairs, itchy skin from beard growth, lack of attention from women, complaints of a scratchy beard, beardruff (dandruff from the beard), dull looking beard hair, slow beard growth
Hi Kate, the PANASONIC ER-GB40-S mentioned in our review comes with a charging stand, but does not come with an ear & nose trimmer. Nose hair trimmers are pretty inexpensive, so getting a separate one shouldn’t be a huge issue. Be sure to check out our guide of the best nose hair trimmer.
That’s not unusual for those with thick beards. You may need to use more oil, yes, but other things you can try are applying the oil when your beard is still slightly damp. Now, this can be tricky. Applying oil when your beard is too damp can make it appear greasy, so you may have to do a little experimenting to see what works best for you. But by applying it before your beard is completely dry will help trap that moisture in your beard. Next, it’s always a good idea to top the beard oil with beard balm. The oils in the balm will also help to condition your beard, and the sealants will help your beard stay hydrated longer by sealing in the moisture.

  1. For many men, the best-looking beard is one in which the hair on the sides of your face is slightly shorter than the hair on your chin. That said, trim your cheeks down to your jawline, then go back to your cheeks for a final pass with a length setting that’s 2mm shorter. You’ll like how your beard looks.
Remember that less is more and you can always trim more another day. In terms of maintenance I’d recommend rinsing the beard thoroughly everyday in the shower and apply beard oil daily. You can wash the beard with a beard wash anywhere between one and 3 times a week.
While the price may be a bit exorbitant, many users think it’s worth the expense for a lightweight model at only 1 pound that feels good in your hand and comes with a two-year warranty – not to mention its superb performance capabilities.
Biotin is a natural hair growth supplement that you can take to help improve the hair quality and growth. This is especially helpful in men who suffer thin, patchy beards. Biotin contains Vitamin B6, C, and E, which will help keep your hair and skin in top shape. The downside to this supplement is that hair and nails are much alike, and accelerated nails and other bodily hair are likely to occur. So make sure you can deal with this potential before going forward.
A softer beard starts with a good foundation. Wash your beard with beard shampoo only, so that your beard’s natural pH is maintained and you aren’t exposed to any harsh abrasives that might roughen up your hair.
All you need to do is drip a couple of drops of oil into your hands, then rub it on the palms of both of your hands and rub it into the beard. The amount of oil will vary depending on the size of your beard, but you will quickly find the perfect volume necessary to cover it all without making it greasy.
This is absolutely not true, at least not necessarily. While there are several causes of acne, and it could make you break out worse, most types of acnes would be helped by coconut oil. Look into it and read about it, you’ll see numerous articles about it.
Don’t blame yourself if you fall in love with this aesthetically designed model! You will know what it exactly means when you will look at the incredible design of TRYM II. Crafted in the top grade metal combined with a shiny black plastic, this is one of the most eye catching electric beard trimmer you would come across. The story does not end at its plush design; let’s look at some of its features.

  2. If you haven’t, then we suggest you do – Smooth Viking’s go-to balm is formulated to keep your beard manageable no matter how long it grows. It provides the proper hydration and strength to each hair follicle from its root to its tip.
Very informative post. I would say that both beard oil and beard balm are necessary especially if your beard is long. For short beards, maybe beard oil only might be more than enough. For longer beards, beard balm can style/shape your beard in a very neat way.
#1 RATED BEARD OIL – Moisturizes beard hair and skin, eliminates itching and dandruff (beard-druff) for a kissable and respectable beard. Use daily for the best beard effect. Even if your beard grows up past your cheek, cover it, the skin, and the follicle beneath it with anti-oxidant power almost like a tonic and thickener.
Trim with a beard trimmer every 5-10 days. After waiting for your initial grow-out period, when you’ve got the beard to its desired length, it’s important to start trimming and shaping it. Most men should trim their beards about once every two weeks or so, depending on your speed of growth, and the style of beard you want to have.

The Panasonic Arc 4 features 4 blades and a dual motor that delivers the promise of a close and precise shave to the user. The blades are also honed at a 30 degree angle that intensifies their sharpness and makes them more durable. It has almost all the features of Panasonic Arc 5 and is among the most popular electric beard trimmers category.
Bro, I didn’t get my beard n mouthstache properly I’m shaving my beard weekly still it doesn’t started to grow it has strtd at just over chin so please suggest me an oil or balm or jel and my age is 19
Generally the “cheek line”, the upper limit of the beard on the cheeks, is best left natural. Some men butcher otherwise excellent beards by shaving the cheeks into strange shapes. Unless your beard appears to be starting just below your eyes, you probably are better off not shaving or sculpting the beard on your cheeks.
Growing a beard is a lot less daunting than it seems at first and much easier than regrowing hair on your head. After all, you’re a man. You’re biologically programmed to grow a beard. While the characteristics of your beard will vary from other men, because we’re all unique, it’s still important to remember that you can do it. Even if it takes longer to grow your beard than it took your best friend to grow his, you can still do it. And being calm about the whole thing will prevent hair loss and allow your hair to grow at its normal rate.
This is really helpful information, Thank You. I haven’t grown my beard in 25 years, but I’m growing it now. It’s never going to be more than an inch or two long. I’m a 70-year-0ld, still active professional, so the highly groomed, sophisticate look is what I’m seeking. As if I have to say it, my beard is white. My intention is to train the sides to lay at a 45-degree angle along my cheeks. I understand that will take some work. If I’m reading your article correctly, it sounds as if beard oil will suit my purposes. What brand do you recommend, especially in light of my desire to train my beard?

  3. Dehydration, has, unfortunately, an ugly effect, for our skin, but also for everything that is attached to it. As a general rule, not drinking enough water for a longer period of time can have some ugly consequences. Like a very tired complexion, full of spots or a very dull and wiry bear, lacking shine and health.

Consider sleeping more. Many of us neglect this nightly “task”, but studies have shown that men who sleep for 8 hours, have nearly two times the testosterone of the guys who sleep for only 4 hours per night.
By the way, if you want a specific formula for shaving and shaping your beard, go take a look at our guide.  We cover everything from sensitive skin, to heavy hair growth, and much more: http://www.groominglounge.com/shaving-cocktails-beard-type
Go for a natural boar bristle brush like this one from Smooth Viking, which features 100% black wild boar bristles. Boar bristle is superior to synthetics because it doesn’t irritate the skin below your beard and is easy to work with.
Use your trimmer and beard shaping tool to shave the outline of the style you have chosen. This is a good starting point because it gives you a good guideline to follow during the rest of the grooming process.
Now time for the actual kissing part. Everyone is different and no matter who you are kissing, they’re gonna have a different preference. Odds are you’ll probably get hair in your mouth, and they’ll get hair in theirs. That’s just the nature of the beast. But, you’re probably not kissing 10 hours a day. You’re a busy guy with other shit to do. One way to do it, is to just go right in. This is for those quick pecks, and you’re gonna get a little bit of mustache in there. The other way to do it is to just lift up your stache and split it down the middle. Lastly, you can come in at a downward motion to essentially play your hair on their upper lip instead of getting it in their mouth.

  4. Winner of AskMen’s 2016 Grooming Award for Best Beard Oil, Jack Black’s facial serum combines 10 natural oils with other nourishing ingredients to moisturize and protect the beard from breakage. Its creamy texture conditions whiskers better than most other beard oils in its class, absorbing quickly to speed up the grooming process. Some even suggest the formula can double as a shaving agent. The aromatic citrusy cent is a pleasurable bonus.
One of the Best Professional Beard trimmer, it is a choice of many professional barbers around. It is designed in a solid body and has almost all the features that can make it desirable to any man. It is considered to be a popular choice by people having the most sensitive skin. Some of its distinguishable features are-
Unfortunately, there is no way to escape the low temperatures or the hard water. Unless you want to move to the south and wash you face only with spring water. But that would be a bit of an extreme gesture to do just for the sake of growing a beard.
This is no ordinary, run of the mill brush. There aren’t any plastic bristles to snag your beard and pull out your hair. A boar’s hair bristle brush is made from, well, a boar’s hair. It’s great for training your hair to grow in the direction you want, and provides a ton of benefits to your skin and hair. The bristles have a scaled texture that is perfect for sweeping away dust and grime, evenly distributing the oil of your skin, and stimulating circulation in your scalp and face.
That said, finding the right trimmer to execute this not-really-shaving look is a challenge. You want one that will last for years while still holding its charge, preferably with a lithium-ion battery. The blades should be sharp — for morning efficiency, mostly — and the tool should feel good in your hands without seeming cheap, or getting too easily clogged with hairs. My last trimmer recently went kaput, so I decided to check out all of the options on the market to find the best replacement. After researching more than 30 trimmers, and testing a dozen from major electronics brands and digital upstarts alike, these five stood out. And not just for simple things like having the most power, or the strongest blades, or ample battery life, but for otherwise being a cut above the rest. (Sorry.)
Remember that facial hair is more stiff and wiry than the hair on your head by default.  If you want that irresistible soft beard that those bastards in Hollywood make girls drool over, then you have to use the right products.
You can’t just will a beard to grow and throw caution to the wind. There are a ton of guys out there who give a shit about what people think about them, and that’s ok. You want to have the confidence to grow a beard but don’t to burn the bridges of your relationship. Life is all about compromising where you need to.
For those growing out the beards, this is where all the fun starts to come in. After about 2 months you’ll notice your beard does some really funky things. What was once a straight and neat look, becomes wavy, curly and what you may think is wild. This is natural and it should be embraced as your natural beard.
Honest Amish’s use of fruit and nut butter is very purpose-driven and geared explicitly toward optimal beard quality all while protecting the skin beneath the beard. To note from use, the beard balm isn’t so thick that you can get your favorite beard brush through it and groom properly.
The 7200’s integrated vacuum system promises to catch up to 90% of your stray hairs thanks to a high-velocity motor and fan system that provide powerful suction to lift and capture maximum hairs. But the vacuum system isn’t the only reason this trimmer is a go-to choice.
