Last week I sat in a Brooklyn barbershop where five bearded men talked about beard maintenance in the same way as I’ve heard men analysing a football game on a Monday morning. They discussed strategy and effectiveness; trials and failures. They laughed and nodded and bumped fists.
Overall this is quite a masculine scent. If you aren’t a huge fan of floral/girly scents, this option is for you. There are actually a few scents available; timber, citrus and spice, pine tar, and original (grapefruit, lime and fir needles). The scents aren’t overbearing and feature no artificial perfumes.
The ER-GB40-S is good for wet and dry use and fully waterproof. You can use it in the shower or over the sink, with shaving gels, lotions, and foams, and its cordless option means you can use it almost anywhere. We think it’s the best cordless beard trimmer on the market.
Chances are, if you’re considering dyeing your beard, it’s because you’ve got a lot of gray beard hair. A lot of guys choose to rock the gray, but that’s not your thing, there are a lot of dyes available from Just for Men brand, which tends to be a cut above some of the alternatives out there, which are often of dubious quality.
While the price may be a bit exorbitant, many users think it’s worth the expense for a lightweight model at only 1 pound that feels good in your hand and comes with a two-year warranty – not to mention its superb performance capabilities.
I recently shaved off a very hearty 7 inches of beard down to the skin and have begun the journey to the YEARD! Good times. It was tough….but since I’m a ginger……THE PHOENIX V2 will be worth the baby face! Brandon, I noticed there is a Beardbrand oil missing from your list. 4 Vices has essential oils from Tobacco, coffee, hops and Hemp Canabis and is a “Gold Label” product. The scent is actually very mild compared to a the Tree Ranger or Lumber Yard scents. Note though, it is a heavier oil so a little goes a LONG way. Also note about beard brand they have a 3 tier label system of White, Silver and Gold. If you use it on a daily basis 2-3 times a day the white label is a more cost effective avenue ( I suppose….if you use A LOT OF OIL ) whereas the Silver and Gold labels are a little higher price point. All said…..If you use it pretty sparingly any of these oils is nice.
This is definitely a unique oil, but it makes sense that this Australian product features Australian specific ingredients. There are several therapeutic benefits, but the specific problem it solves is the ever elusive beard itch. This oil does a great job at manging the problem.
While Wild Willies contains many of the oils commonly found in any beard balm that can call itself a contender for the best beard balm, one ingredient they have that sets them apart from the pack is tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is known less for its moisture and more for its health benefits. It’s anti-inflammatory; more than that, it’s anti-fungal. Nobody likes to talk about, but there are a lot of pathogens that can show up in even the cleanest of beards belonging to the most hygienic of men. One of those is yeast, a type of fungus. Men get yeast infections too, and no one wants one on their face. Tea tree oil is one of the most potent natural antifungals there is, which means if your itchiness is caused by yeast (whether known or unknown to you), the tea tree oil in Wild Willies can help combat that.
In the United States, meanwhile, popular movies portrayed heroes with clean-shaven faces and “crew cuts”. Concurrently, the psychological mass marketing of Madison Avenue was becoming prevalent, and makers of safety razors were among these marketers’ early clients, including The Gillette Company and the American Safety Razor Company. The phrase five o’clock shadow, as a pejorative for stubble, was coined circa 1942 in advertising for Gem Blades, by the American Safety Razor Company, and entered popular usage. These events conspired to popularise short hair and clean-shaven faces as the only acceptable style for decades to come. The few men who wore the beard or portions of the beard during this period were frequently either elderly, Central European, members of a religious sect that required it, sailors, or in academia.

Laser: This is a truly unique quality in a beard trimmer, and one that we have not found in any of the other models we reviewed. It’s an interesting experience all its own to use, completely transforming the grooming experience and making it easier and more precise than ever.
Well, as we said – with the growing popularity of beards, the popularity of oil has risen up, too. They are everywhere now, and you can choose from such a variety of products today that it might be a bit overwhelming. Let us get one thing clear: if you choose the best oil, you are not just getting a cosmetic ointment, you are getting a product that is healthy and beneficial for your skin and beard.
We understand that there are some cases of beard patchiness that will never ever be remedied. However, that doesn’t mean that you need to opt for the completely shaven look either. Although we don’t suggest this to many, the best way to combat persistent beard patchiness is to simply opt for a shorter length of facial hair, going as far as what many simply consider “scruff.” Much like baldness, it’s much less noticeable when your facial hair is already at a short length so the areas that simply don’t grow hair become less apparent in comparison to those that do.
A good way to straighten curly hair is to use a blow dryer and a comb after showering. Use the comb to hold your hair straight and let the blow dryer dry your hair. You could always use an straightening iron as well. See this Wikihow on how to how to get wavy hair.
Short Battery Life: If you want to use your trimmer for long stretches of time without having to charge it, then this is not the model for you. A full charge takes half a day to accomplish, and only lasts 50 minutes.
Hi Robin, thanks for your questions. Age can effect beard growth. Prime beard growing years are generally between 20-60. But many people older and younger grow full beards. Perhaps the most overlooked component to beard growth is hydration. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water, wash your face with an all-natural hot processed birch tar soap, and then apply beard oil or beard balm. In addition, a biotin supplement can help your beard grow thicker.
The Zohar, one of the primary sources of Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism), attributes holiness to the beard, specifying that hairs of the beard symbolize channels of subconscious holy energy that flows from above to the human soul. Therefore, most Hasidic Jews, for whom Kabbalah plays an important role in their religious practice, traditionally do not remove or even trim their beards.
There are a lot of groups on the internet that will provide support if you are having a bad beard day. My favorite places to hang out are: /r/beards, Beardboard.com, and BeardedGents.com. Upload photos of your beard growth progress and bask in the positive and constructive comments from other beardsmen.
What is it made from? Your beard trimmer should be made of high-quality materials, such as stainless steel, and have a good construction. This helps you to know if it will last for the long haul and if it is a reliable model.
Catagen phase: The resting phase, or catagen phase, is where your hair follicle quits melanin production and shrinks. It lasts only about two weeks and only 1% of your hair is going to be in this phase at any given time.
I like the eye-dropper bottle the best, of their collection. The oil works great, and has a good smell. My wife prefers the smell of other beard oils (she likes the Bay Lime one best) but Dreambeard is a fine brand.
Minus morning grooming and the occasional long stare into the sea’s horizon while contemplating deep thoughts, a beardsman should keep his hands away from his beard at all costs. Yes, it can be fun to play with. However, hell hath no fury to one’s beard like a wandering hand. The more time you spend fiddling with your beard, the more destruction that occurs. Picking at scabs or acne, plucking occasional beard hairs, all of it leads to less healthy facial skin and non-natural beard patchiness. We know it’s impossible to keep your hands off your beard at all times, but if you can reduce the amount you do it over the course of a month, you’ll definitely see improved results in no time.
Maestro’s Classic Beard Butter in Wiseman’s Blend combines the unique texture and styling capabilities of beard butter with frankincense, rosewood and cypress to stimulate your senses. The result is a good styling product with a chill aromatherapy vibe.
A couple of general rules about wax. First, a lot of men categorize them as being soft, medium or firm. Soft wax is typically used in shorter mustaches to help control stray hairs while also providing a subtle sheen.
Their plant-based oils are fair trade, certified organic, and, in some cases, Kosher. Meanwhile, their lanolin is USP-certified, which means it is certified to contain exactly what it says it does, in the amount it says it does.
Beard tonics are very similar to beard oils in that they are not only made of oil, but hold many oils in common to standard beard oils. The real differences are small and tend to focus towards specific goals like healing the skin below your beard or promoting beard growth.
The length of your beard – medium, short, stubble – is an important factor when choosing a trimmer. Make sure that the one you choose as multiple length settings. Also, some trimmers are best for short hair, others with longer hair – and so on. The bottom line is that the trimmer you choose supports the length of beard you have.
There are plenty of reasons why the five beard trimmers reviewed above are on our ‘best of’ list for 2018. We took into account a lot of factors: each trimmer’s versatility, ease of use, the number of (useful) attachments, whether it was good for both wet and dry shaving, and durability.
This one is a Remington, a name that is the brainchild of cordless and rechargeable shavers. The brand is popular for introducing a large number of reasonably priced electric shavers into the market. The F5-5800 comes with an intercept shaving technology that helps to cut the long beard before giving a final close shave. This makes it the best beard trimmer for long beards. We get you a detailed review of the product.
The answer #1 is minoxidil. It works by activating the potassium channels on your hair follicles and allows for increased circulation of nutrients, testosterone, and DHT to the beard follicles, dramatically improving beard growth within 6-12 months.
Let’s face it, we’ve all monitored the clock, our watches, and the calendar days go by while trying to grow a beard. Shaving your beard will NEVER make it grow back faster or thicker, it’s an urban legend. The ability to grow a full beard is something that most men, both beardsmen and those who shave regularly, covet. Whether they actually act on this desire is a whole other story, but regardless, most men want to know that they could grow a thick and dense beard if they so desired. In reality, beards are almost never perfect and although we all wish our beards were perfectly distributed and fertile enough where you can’t see the facial skin below, these desires are simply not the reality for most beardsmen.
That’s where beard oils come in. You’ve probably heard about them, but many guys I’ve spoken with don’t really know why or how they’re used, or where to begin when it comes to choosing one. Will they make your face break out? Why would you slather oil on your face? Read on, and we’ll clear it all up.
Age can play a factor in how fast beards grow. Men have the best chance of growing a thicker and longer beard between the ages of 25 and 35, because that is when the hair goes into the longest anagen phases of the hair growth cycle, which is when hair grows, which means you’ll experience the most growth then. (The hair growth cycle is covered in fuller detail in an above section if you want to learn more.)
