Super informative article. One of many i’m guessing. Haven’t had time to peruse any of the other articles on this site but no doubt that will be of the same high calibre. Any one who writes a great review about Honest Amish Beard Balm is a friend of mine – and of who i rankly highly in the beard grooming world. I was introduced to Honest Amish after coming across a similar review article over at Hot Shave Hustlers. It’s a product that just keeps on giving and giving year in – year out. No doubt in my top 3 beard balms along with the infamous Wild Willies Beard Butter and Professor Edward Fuzzworthy’s beard care balm gloss,(…what a mouthful!). Also highly impressed by other products coming out of the Honest Amish stable, namely the Premium Beard oil and the Beard and Body Soap (slick). Hands down a great article right here. Look forward to perusing the site and reading much more.. JM
Wild Willie’s, which is part of Manskape Companies and the producers of their excellent Beard Balm Leave-In Conditioner Beard Butter, are all about freedom when it comes to facial hair. They want you to be unique; even it means looking like a Civil War general, or a lumberjack who’s just emerged from a long hibernation in the wilderness.
The Braun 9 series has an extra trimmer as compared to the series 7, which the brand calls ‘Direct and cut’. The trimmer is used to align the hair that grow in different directions and then cuts them away.
I’ve used coconut oil as a softener for my beard several times. I’m using a virgin organic brand. Smells great when I put it in. However, after it has been left in for about four or five hours, it starts to smell (and taste) like soap. I find this fairly unpleasant. Anybody else have this sort of issue?
Only 4 Length Settings: The four length settings for your trimming needs, this model really can’t measure up to the accuracy, precision, and versatility of the other models we have reviewed. This is the lowest number of length settings of any of the trimmers we’ve reviewed, so if that’s a priority for you, then the search continues!
Indeed, it’s manly but you also won’t feel like a lumberjack in a more civilized setting – the camera pans in on the bearded man in the corner who’s wearing a smoking jacket, enjoying a fine cigar and glass of brandy. “What’s that scent he’s wearing?” someone asks.
Best way to describe them are vegetable oils derived from the kernels, nuts, or seeds of plants. Three of the signature benefits they bring to beards are moisture, nutrients, and softness. The primary function of a carrier oil is to transport an essential oil to the skin. Keep an eye out for the following:
In Ancient India, the beard was allowed to grow long, a symbol of dignity and of wisdom, especially by ascetics (sadhu). The nations in the east generally treated their beards with great care and veneration, and the punishment for licentiousness and adultery was to have the beard of the offending parties publicly cut off.
Travel-friendly trimmers should also have a longer battery life while being easily chargeable. In most cases, a cordless trimmer is easier to take with you when you travel, but it needs to have an easy-to-access charging source.

In Greek mythology and art, Zeus and Poseidon are always portrayed with beards, but Apollo never is. A bearded Hermes was replaced with the more familiar beardless youth in the 5th century BC. Zoroaster, the 11th/10th century BC era founder of Zoroastrianism is almost always depicted with a beard.
Brushing is good for your beard. If you’re going to brush your beard then you should brush no more than once a day. Doing it more than once a day is over kill to your beard. Brushing too often will create split ends, damaging the facial hair you’ve worked so hard to grow. Make it part of your daily ritual in morning. For the best results: brush after you shower, for it will make it will make your beard look nice and tidy for the day.
After trying about 20 different beard oils, I decided to make my own. My first batch was 100% organic hemp oil and jojoba oil scented with sandalwood and leather. Even women were buying it. Some folks wanted to put it on their dogs. I said wait, let me check into that. Well the first 30 oz sold out in a week.
If there is one thing Professor Fuzzworthy is known for, it’s the scent of their products. We actually reviewed their beard shampoo and only had solid things to say about it. The scent isn’t overpowering by any means, but it is definitely a refreshing, clean smell. Definitely a great mix of smelling clean without making me want to pass out. They advertise as being a manly woody scent which is definitely accurate. Some have noted the scent is too strong for them, some like it, some don’t.
Laser: This is a truly unique quality in a beard trimmer, and one that we have not found in any of the other models we reviewed. It’s an interesting experience all its own to use, completely transforming the grooming experience and making it easier and more precise than ever.
Be conservative when you’re using both products. While using both in appropriate amounts can really level up your beard game, it’s also easy to overdo it. Start with just a little bit of product, and slowly work your way up to what you need.

Once you reach the 4 – 6 week mark, then you can begin to shape and clean up the region as much as you like. Forget the old wives tale about trimming the hair makes it grow thicker and darker and faster.
It might sound obvious, but a diet high in protein, with less stress and more sleep can help you grow a faster beard. Stress is one of the contributing factors of hair loss, and will reverse the effects in men of any age. Protein gives your body the right nutrients to grow more hair, and sleep is the necessary time to put it all into place. Even drinking the recommended eight glasses of water a day will help keep the growth thick and healthy.
Growing a beard can be one of life’s secret joys; even a token accomplishment. Not all men find it easy to grow plums of facial hair, but there are a few things you can do to help. While the rate and thickness of growth you produce will be dependent on your age and genetics, one thing all men lack is patience. This is how many men come to ask for advice on how to make your beard grow faster, as no one enjoys the itchy, fuzzy growing in phase.
My boyfriend wants to just have a shadow for a beard but has been using a trimmer with plastic guards and he hates it. What is a really good trimmer for him to just have that shadow look? No plastic guards either.
Don’t use antiandrogenic medication. Many common drugs have a nasty side effect of lowering crucial beard growing hormones, these include: statins, SSRI’s, beta-blockers, opiate painkillers, antifungals…
Beard oil is an absolutely necessary component in your beard maintenance routine. It goes a long way towards nourishing and hydrating your beard, and many beard oils can also function as a leave-in conditioner or a facial moisturizer, if you’re trying to be thrifty.
3. Dye It: This one is smoke and mirrors, but it works. I have brown hair, but half my beard is a weird translucent blond. So, I often dye it to match the blondes with the browns, and it more than triples the density. This tip ain’t helpful for anyone who doesn’t also have blonde beard hairs and dark hairs to match, but it does the trick, and usually confuses my friends who see my regularly—in a good way. Don’t be ashamed to admit the secret, either: Your beard is already thick, it just doesn’t appear that way. So you’re helping showcase what’s there. As for brands, Just for Men has yet to fail me, and they have a good sliding scale of options for facial hair. Just don’t let it set for more than prescribed, or else you’ll have patchy dye spots on your skin for a couple days.
Overall, this is a trimmer that is a great asset to a man’s collection of grooming tools, but it does have some drawbacks that put it out of the running for men that need more length from their beards.
First of all, give it some time. Some guys will spend a month skipping the razor and letting their beard grow only to find that it looks sparse and thin, which leads to them losing hope and shaving it off. But the truth is that time may be the best remedy. If you can stick it out through the four to five-month mark, a lot of times you’re going to notice that your beard starts to look fuller and denser. You can even use the longer hairs to cover up the sparser areas by combing and styling it into place.
The Prospector beard oil by Burroughs is one of the oldest and most trusted brands of beard oil. It has some of the best beard oil reviews around. Its earthy scent gives your beard a rich, manly presence, and naturally it’s one of my favorites.
Many beards men would argue that the first two weeks of beard growth are the toughest and with good reason. By the third week, that pesky itch will have subsided, and your patch of facial hair is taking the shape of a real beard.
Shave regularly until your facial hair comes in evenly. The worst way to grow a beard is to just stop shaving, or to never start. This results in patchy, uneven, and thin beards that just flat-out won’t look good on your face. If your facial hair isn’t growing in evenly all around your face, keep shaving regularly, and be patient until it does.
Once you’ve rinsed that out, apply softener thoroughly to your beard. Let it sit in your beard for a few minutes while you continue your shower, then rinse it out just before you finish. Leaving softener in your beard for a few minutes makes a world of difference in enhancing its conditioning effects.
Grow it out whenever you want. While lots of men like to grow out their beards in cold months for insulation purposes, it’s a common misconception that beards are more uncomfortable in hot weather. In fact, beards help protect from UV sun rays, and work to cool the skin during hot weather, trapping sweat close to your face, cooling as it evaporates. While the itchiness associated with beards is typically less desirable during hot weather, it’s not something that will do much to keep you warm.
A beard shouldn’t end at your chin. Someone tell the NFL. Let the hair grow naturally up to about an inch or two above your Adam’s apple, then allow it to fade using a few different settings on a trimmer. (Olvera likes to use a trimmer from Oster). In addition to a trimmer, here’s a full list of all the tools you’ll need.
With that, we’ll wrap up another review. We always welcome your feedback, whether it’s about the products listed here, a favorite product of yours, or anything related to men’s grooming and beards. We’d love to hear from you.
You want to wash with Birch Tar Soap http://themodcabin.com/product/birch-tar-soap/. A regular store bought shampoo or soap may dry out your beard and make it brittle. Once your beard is nearly dry, apply beard oil. We suggest Gunbarrel Beard Oil http://themodcabin.com/product/gunbarrel-beard-oil/, and you can top it off with our Backwoods Beard Balm to provide some hold and lock in all that moisture. http://themodcabin.com/product/backwoods-beard-balm-conditioner/
Great great tips! I would also recommend to be more active in order to increase testosterone levels, rest (8-9 hours daily), and eat better, which means, no junk food, limit alcohol, plus eliminate smoking.
Now that you’re beard is clean, dry, and looking spectacular, it’s time to begin the trimming process. And it all starts with the neck. A tidy, well-kept neckline is a key component of a well-styled beard.
Begin by holding your beard comb so that the teeth are pointed upward. Use a relaxed grip – like you use your toothbrush – so that you maintain the necessary amount of control while you’re combing. Next, comb out the beard with an upward motion to “fluff” it away from your face. The goal is to separate the hairs of your beard so you can more effectively get rid of the bed-beard look.
Minus morning grooming and the occasional long stare into the sea’s horizon while contemplating deep thoughts, a beardsman should keep his hands away from his beard at all costs. Yes, it can be fun to play with. However, hell hath no fury to one’s beard like a wandering hand. The more time you spend fiddling with your beard, the more destruction that occurs. Picking at scabs or acne, plucking occasional beard hairs, all of it leads to less healthy facial skin and non-natural beard patchiness. We know it’s impossible to keep your hands off your beard at all times, but if you can reduce the amount you do it over the course of a month, you’ll definitely see improved results in no time.
Finally, the beards are back! It doesn’t matter if you are a hipster, a programmer, a lumberjack dude or an actual lumberjack, the time has come for the beards to come back and stick to more faces than ever. We haven’t seen this many beards since the 60’s and there is now an entire science to help you groom the best beard you can grow now!
I’m new to the beard oil scene, and would like your expert advice on a good oil to begin with — I enjoy woody and balsamic scents, but prefer a mild aroma (my wife gets headaches from some scents, and that’s the very last thing I want to do to her). What say you, good sir?
The time to recharge the battery takes too long. The product works on the nickel metal hydride battery which does not performs as well as the lithium ion battery, and thus you need to give long hours to your trimmer to charge full.
