Today Eric is talking about BEARD BALM. We often get asked the differences between our Utility Balm and Styling Balm. Both are great products, but are designed for different purposes. Listen up as Eric goes into detail about what exactly this awesome stuff is, and how it is used.
Split ends happen when your hair follicles become too coarse or brittle, and the ends fray and, well, split. There are a ton of different reasons this can happen. Luckily we’ve got the perfect video for you on how to fix it! Basically, the root cause is a lack of moisture in the follicles of your beard!
A lot of growing a beard revolves around properly taking care of it. You can care for your beard throughout the day with beard oil and balm. You can train the hairs with a boar bristle brush and a comb. This will also help spread the natural oil you produce, sebum, throughout your beard. You can use scissors to trim down your beard and mustache, and also get rid of split ends. Keeping it clean is as simple as using beard wash and softener a few days a week.
Sorry about that. We have a blog post that addresses that exact question. There’s a graphic that explains where you should trim. Take a look at this article and see if it answers our question. http://themodcabin.com/beard-styles-the-full-beard/
In the time of Alexander the Great the custom of smooth shaving was introduced. Reportedly, Alexander ordered his soldiers to be clean-shaven, fearing that their beards would serve as handles for their enemies to grab and to hold the soldier as he was killed. The practice of shaving spread from the Macedonians, whose kings are represented on coins, etc. with smooth faces, throughout the whole known world of the Macedonian Empire. Laws were passed against it, without effect, at Rhodes and Byzantium; and even Aristotle conformed to the new custom, unlike the other philosophers, who retained the beard as a badge of their profession. A man with a beard after the Macedonian period implied a philosopher, and there are many allusions to this custom of the later philosophers in such proverbs as: “The beard does not constitute a philosopher.”

Hey Doug, thanks for your comment. I’ve used coconut oil as well but I haven’t noticed something like that. Does this happen no matter the amount that you apply on your beard? What kind of brand are you using? Could it be the particular brand?
I’ve tried a few different brands of beard oil. My favourite is from an Australian company called The Bearded Chap. It costs more than the average beard oil, but I think it’s worth it. They have a range of products. I have yet to find a company with a better oil or beard soap.
While I was looking at each beard oil company, I noticed that just about every one offer a true unscented one. They were called, unscented, nude, bare etc…etc. You just have to look at the whole catalog of each company. Lucky Scruff offers one, Dream Beard does, as well as Blacklabelbeard and Beardoilshop.
Eat well and get adequate nutrition. Remember, inadequate protein intake and vitamin deficiencies are common causes of stunted hair growth. Go for grilled chicken breast and a decent beard growth vitamin, like Wild Willies Bad Ass Beard Growth Dietary Supplement, which nourishes follicles to encourage growth and simultaneously calms inflammation that may be hampering beard growth.

In China, the revolution of 1911 and subsequent May Fourth Movement of 1919 led the Chinese to idealise the West as more modern and progressive than themselves. This included the realm of fashion, and Chinese men began shaving their faces and cutting their hair short. Moustaches were however, still worn by prominent figures like Sun Yat-Sen, Chiang Kai-shek and Lu Xun.
Great article. My wife turned me to coconut oil as she applied it to her hair a couple times a week. It makes my beard so soft and really makes it shine. Not to mention once you brush it out after applying it really looks tight and full.
I have been trying to grow a beard for a while now but it was fragile so I decided to start over what do you recommend for thicker healthier beards? I already grow all over my face just want a stronger healthier looking beard. And what do u recommend to use for styling once it’s long enough.
Trim with a beard trimmer every 5-10 days. After waiting for your initial grow-out period, when you’ve got the beard to its desired length, it’s important to start trimming and shaping it. Most men should trim their beards about once every two weeks or so, depending on your speed of growth, and the style of beard you want to have.
Beards offer a variety of other health benefits, including trapping dust to help you avoid asthma attacks and upper respiratory infections, and act as windbreakers, helping to shield your face from cold weather blasts.
The balm is easy to work with and mold in your hands prior to application (it has exceptional softness) and therefore is easier to spread in your beard hair. You’ll also love the scent: it’s mild and woodsy, manly yet sophisticated.
If you suffer from itching or a rash, ask a doctor about applying a hydrocortisone cream to your face while you are growing a beard. It will relieve the itching. However, it can also have negative side effects when used on the face, so only apply it according to doctor supervision and advice.
