Rafael Casal is a monster, and he’s “monstering up” with a free album download.
A couple of months ago, we helped spread the word about Rafael’s thorough accounting of Bay slang, “The Grinch Song.” Folks lost they minds off that one and our mole in the PDX went on a major Rafael Casal bender as a consequence. Now he’s got an album. And it’s free. Here’s the link if you want to give his site some traffic and cop the tracks. See told you.
Turns out FTB’s Meschery knew Casal from back in his BUMP Records days. Good guy by his accounting. So, when Rafael hit me up today for some help pushing his new joints, how could I say no? Especially after listening to them. Straight slappers, son! But still, honesty moment: the world is short on thoughtful hip-hop these days, and it’s been a pleasure to see young Rafa evolve from slam poet to MC with some real shit to say. Here’s an excerpt from his e-mail and some real talk about the logic of spreading the lyrical love on the freestyle tip instead of the “pay-style” one.
The project is a 12-track concept album surrounding themes of monstrosity. It is part commentary on the ugly, part showcase of skill, all musical goodness.
Visit our site, THE GETBLOG for your free copy! Give it a listen, if you like it, give it to a friend to listen. Burn it, pass it, share it.
We are trying to spread the word about the project as much as possible/gain support/expand what we are doing in any and all ways so that we can continue to create this music we love. If you know of media outlets, music distribution companies, etc. etc. that might be interested in partnering with us or helping the project along, please let us know!
Enjoy THE MONSTER LP, we are proud to send it your way. Thank you for your continued support!
I’m still previewing this as I write, but I’m pretty sure I know what’s going to be knocking in my headphones on BART tomorrow morning.
Monster video after the jump,
Turman
PS. After watching the end of the Blazers loss tonight, I can only hope that this provides some much-needed salve to our man the mole, Clement, aka commenter kickinknowledge. Wisdom tooth plus bad losses will all wash away. Listen and feel better.
