Hater Tuesday Special: Bill Simmons doing the hating on Mike Dunleavy for me.
This suit alone is reason enough to hate the man, but well-known author, Bill Simmons, aka “The Sports Guy” has really taken his hatred of Mike Dunleavy, Sr. to new levels lately. Maybe the man we like to call The Cryptkeeper is hearing the messages. Remarkably, Dunleavy appeared to recognize (and play) his best players tonight in a narrow win over Minnesota. Even more remarkably, he didn’t watch Sebastian Telfair toss the game away in the fourth quarter, actually bringing Baron back in before the 7:00 mark. Which is quite early for him. Which speaks volumes. Anyway, congrats Clips on getting an important first win.
Now, to the hate. Bill Simmons just wrote a book about basketball. Actually, it’s called “The Book of Basketball.” I’ll probably read it. And he’s on book tour, while keeping up the usual stream of prose over at ESPN. But it might be his Twitter feed where the frustration about all things Dunleavy are becoming some of his best reading. Did I mention that he’s a Clippers fan and season ticket holder? Some samples regarding the Halloween loss the other night.
Flying off the shelves in book stores everywhere: “We Continue To Hate Mike Dunleavy,” by the Los Angeles Clippers.
How can the Clips keep Dunleavy as coach? He’s getting worse & he was already historically bad. JUST QUIT DUNLEAVY. SERIOUSLY. QUIT!!!!!!!!
Look at play-by-play transcript of the 4th Q. Pay attention to the lack of subs + offensive “plays” down the stretch. http://bit.ly/1jiKpU
Last 3:15: turnover, miss, miss, blocked, shotclock violation, turnover, miss, miss. With Baron on bench. Ladies & gentlemen, Mike Dunleavy!
I couldn’t agree more after watching most of the first five games. It’s a demoralizing brand of senility that he projects on the court. Get hot, he benches you for seven minutes. Fourth quarter? Why go with the starters down the stretch, when we can let Telfair bounce the ball of of Kaman’s ankles? Tonight was better though. Maybe he’s getting the message. Either way, tune into The Sports Guy. I feel–and retweet–his pain.
