Finally, those days are behind us. Warriors score a “10″ in SI’s NBA Scouting Report.
Wooo hooo! We got a ten! I thought it would never happen. Two years ago we were eight. Last year we were nine, and now this year, finally, if the Oracles of SI are right, we will finally get to 10. I really have to credit The Warriors front office with this one. Just two seasons ago The Dubs were All-NBA Fan Favorites (A sexy slogan, celebrities in the seats, our two star players making an appearance on Conan), and we squeeked into the eight position and stole one from the Mavericks in The Playoffs. In the off-season that year, our front office went to work and started to dismantle the winning squad by dealing J. Rich, resulting in an amazing hard-fought ninth for the 2007-2008 Season. This past summer, the boys in suits rolled up their sleeves again and got rid of J-Rich’s Conan compatriot and Fan Fav Baron Davis, leaving the Warriors point-less for this coming season. And now what can we expect from the boys in blue and orange and gold? Nothing less than 10! We did it people.
It took us a few years to get back to that comfortable, below par position that Warriors Fans call home. I know that I, for one, was about as comfortable with winning as a junkie at his first NA Meeting. I’m just not ready to turn my life over to a Higher Power, so I’m grateful that there are lesser higher powers like team owners and team presidents who can steer me back on course with all the other Warriors fans huddled together in the basement of Our Lady of Perpetual Rebuilding. Our compass has been re-oriented and we’re no longer adrift in that sea of success. Somewhere off in the distance I see the stern (not David) belonging to a ship called Memphis, and I know if we believe (yes believe!) the trade winds will send us another Tom Gugliotta and we will pass The Thunder and overtake that Grizzled bow. Yes, I believe that soon enough 15 can be ours again.
