German artists grow beards. Liberal elitists grovel.

 Ich bin ein bearded dude.

Yes, I’m one of those lefty elitists the RNC pundits love to hate.

I receive, and read, the New York Times. It’s tossed on the steps of my firmly middle-class dwelling in my radically diverse NorCal neighborhood. And, yes, the metrosexual (deep) in me covets the Men’s Fashion Fall edition of the NY Times Magazine I found at my door this Sunday.

Actually, I usually love it. The “style” magazine provides a great read flip-through with my cuppa joe. Or, a quick perusal during a private moment, behind closed doors, the following week. Ah, the bliss of liberal nonsense

Well, this week, behind said closed door, I couldn’t help but notice, not one, but five bearded gentlemen ballyhooed in an article titled “Ich bin ein Artists.”

In all honestly, I went to a liberal arts college and have a fine art degree, but what the eff? Does every new artist coming out of Berlin have to have a big ol’ beard? With work described as “neo-psychedelic Albrecht Dürer-style sketches”, I’m sure John Kleckner (far right) should have something to cover his face.

Note one of his works here. A naked long-haired bearded fellah laying in a mess of intergalactic botanical thingies, with liberal amounts of green paint splatters. Whoa. Das ist heavy.

With love and hateration,

Gd.

  1. I’ll join you on the hateration here, GD.

In looking at the full-sized photo of the above image (to the right)- my finely-tuned eye couldn’t help but notice that spotless concrete floor. Good thing they “messied it up” with those “scattered” tubes of freshly-bought paint.
    (sigh)
Maybe someday I can put my fine art degree to good use, and art-direct a photo shoot for one of these more successful, bearded chaps.

  2. Word Cocomo. Art direction is where it’s at. No shame in that game. I spent years redirecting my BFA in that direction.

On reflection this am, the thing that’s so funny to me is that since the magazine is only highlighting their “syle”, not their art, this is all about their beards. Since the beards are the only noteworthy thing about these blokes.

So, they follow in a long tradition if art posers. And, good for them for getting this great exposure. I actually Googled a few of there names to see their work. Needless, I determined that I didn’t need a neo-psychedelic Albrecht Dürer-style sketch of a naked bearded dude on my kitchen wall.
