Price is right for Akon and E-40.

It would have to take a lot for me to promote Akon on this blog, but that’s how much love I have for one Matt Price. To let you know how small the Yay Area is, both D. Turman and myself had worked with Matt Price separately at two different jobs before we figured out that we all knew each other a few years later. That’s what DT and I have in common with Akon too. It’s six degrees of Matt Price. Matt Price aka The Price is Right, aka M. Pizzle, aka The Quiet Storm just produced the beat for the new E-40 and Akon collaboration that’s blowin’ up KMEL right now, “Wake it up.” When I first heard it, I thought it might be a song about date rape, but knowing Matt, I don’t think he’d stand for such a thing.  Matt Price is the most unexpected hip hop producer. He’s like the anti-Scott Storch, meaning he doesn’t take himself seriously, he has no ego, he’s super mellow, and, uh, he’s not a douche.

If you check out Matt’s Myspace, you’ll get some of what I’m talking about. He’s also in a mock Italian Boy Band called “The Happy Boys.”  They made a video called “La Dolce Vita” that heavily employs the use of the Auto-tune vocoder effect. How fitting that a few years later, Price would have the Marvin Gaye of auto-tuning on one of his tracks, Akon. Next, he just needs to get T-Pain to lace up a beat.

I couldn’t be happier for Matt. I hope this is the start of a long career as a producer -  just as long as I don’t have to see him in a video one day dissing Timbaland, wearing some long platinum chain and big dumb glasses, talkin’ ’bout “keep my name out yo’ mouth.” If I do, I’m going to have to put him on blog blast just like Storch - write a song about that piano man!
