How does your first car stack up?
My first car was a ‘66 VW Beetle. Stock, except for the Kenwood deck. The six-volt electricals would let me down periodically if the wipers, radio and turn signals were all on at the same time. Perhaps, not so coincidentally, it once famously caught fire not far from Lake Merritt.
Tough loss tonight for the Dubs, but TNT is hating again which is a good sign. Boom and Monta went berserk again, which is also a good sign, but there wasn’t enough rebounding down the stretch to keep the Suns close enough for heroics. On the plus side, Shaq was bellying up to the post-game spread and gasping for a margarita by the middle of the first. Should these teams meet again in the playoffs wager accordingly.
Now beard up goddammit!
Turman
PS. Monta seems a bit confused as to the progeny of his onetime Ford Explorer. As the resident car-talk hack, I can hope it was a ‘95 Explorer and not an ‘85 Bronco or Bronco II, either of which surely would have buried the Mississippi Bullet under a maelstrom of premature transmission rebuilds.

That’s funny DT, mine was a ‘68 VW Beetle. White with a red interior.
It wasn’t running when I bought it for $100. It had been sitting someone’s shed for like 10 years, covered with dust and spider webs. But I got that itch running pretty well. It only had a 6 volt electrical system and the turn signals would blink like every 3 seconds. You had to rev the gas to get them going, otherwise it could be a little dangerous trying to merge.
Later I had painted it black at Earl Scheib on San Pablo for $99.99. It looked terrible. I sold it immediately and got an aqua blue ‘74 Plymouth Valiant that had been retired from the EBMUD fleet (that is the ‘East Bay Municipal Utility District’, for those that don’t know).
That shit was straight mobbin’.

I got my bug painted at Earl Schieb on San Peezy too. That’s messed up. We both got hosed by them.

Mine was a Subaru Loyale Wagon which is like the official car of Truckee California. I think they pretty much require you to own one if you live there. I bought it in Reno at a place called “Five Aces Motors” - you’d think I would have got the hint. As you might expect, that shit overheated 15 miles up the mountain on my way home from buying it.

a black 1980 Chevy Luv!
lol
it was clean.
a mini-truck without the goodies- just before i started seeing the lowered booms skirting around the SL.
(ugh…yeah- tough loss to the Suns. i thought we coulda/shoulds pulled it out.)
a question for FTB:
there was a pretty nasty beard-off on TNTs early game. Deshawn(sp) Stevenson VS Lebron James. who wins?
i thought both were looking pretty funky (in a good way)
looks like the least coast is trying to get ready for the playoffs too.
have a good weekend, all!

‘79 Toyota Celica named Marlin/Marlon (as in “Blue” or as in “Brando”)
Gas meter didn’t work, so you were supposed to drive 300 miles and then fill up again. I always wanted to push it to 315, 320 - and thats why I ran out of gas all over the bay. Transported many a teenage girl to punk shows though. Grrr!

‘81 Chevy Camaro. It was black with T-tops and Burgundy vinyl interior. I looked like a 16 year old child molester in that thing.
Unfortunately, it came with the mighty Chevy V-6 and a host of electrical problems. The dome light would often cause some fuse issues that would kill the power steering and brakes, turning my whip into a white-trash missile. Plus, the guy I bought it from had gotten a great deal on some mag rims and low-profile tires that didn’t actually fit the car. If I drove over the tiniest pebble, the tires would rub on the rear wheel wells. Both rear tires were shot in about 3 weeks, forcing me to improvise with some mismatching rims.
